APP(ammonium polyphosphate) is mainly polymerized from monomeric diphosphorus pentaoxide(P2O5) and diammonium hydrogenorthophosphate(DAP)
APP is flame retardant using expansion mechanism.
APP decomposes ammonia gas and polyphosphoric acid at 275 ℃. Ammonia dilutes the oxygen concentration and at the same time expands and loosens the carbon layer to isolate heat.
APP is halogen free, environmental friendly.

Ammonium polyphosphate (Phase II) is a non-halogen flame retardant. It acts as a flame retardant by the intumescence mechanism. When APP-II is exposed to fire or heat, it decomposes to polymeric phosphate acid and ammonia. The polyphosphoric acid reacts with hydroxyl groups to form a nonstable phosphate ester. Following dehydration of the phosphate ester, a carbon foam is built upon the surface and acts as an insulation layer.

Basic concept of intumescent

• Intumenscent is a substance which swells as a result of heat exposure,thus increasing in volume,and decreasing in density.
• Expansion is nonrmally around 40-60 times that applied DFT.
• Char of low thermal conductivity that reduces heat transfer to substrate.
• Thermal insulation of substrate.
