Applications:

1 . Intumescent coatings, on account of its low water solubility, TF-201 is particularly suitable as an ”acid donor” for intumescent coatings. Other essential components of intumescent systems include a binder, a carbon donor (e.g. pentaerythritol) and a blowing agent (e.g. melamine);

2 . Polyurethane foams, TF-201 is a suitable non-halogenated flame retardant for polyurethane foams. If the handling of TF-201 as a solid is not possible we recommend the dosage of the flame retardant by preparing a TF-201/polyol-suspension;

Ammonium Polyphosphate Flame Retardant

Steel, wood and even reinforced concrete are effectively protected from open flame by special fire-retardant paints. Up to 25 percent of their composition is a flame retardant that swells when heated. The main such substance is ammonium polyphosphate. It is an inorganic derivative of phosphoric acid, widely used as a flame retardant.

Ammonium polyphosphate is used not only in the manufacture of fire retardant paints. It is also used in the manufacture of impregnations, varnishes, mastics, plastics and cable sheaths. Today, for many, it is also important to buy ammonium polyphosphate because it is safe from an environmental point of view. There are no halogens in this substance - poisons that pose a danger to nature and man. The world has long been switching to halogen-free flame retardants, since protection against fire should not be accompanied by health risks.

Manufacturers offer ammonium polyphosphate in two versions - with crystalline phase I and II. They differ in molecular structure, and with it in certain properties. In phase I, the structure is linear, and the chain length varies. Its decomposition temperature is lower in comparison with phase II, and its solubility in water is higher. In turn, in phase II, the molecular structure is more complex and branched. Her molecular weight is greater, higher and thermal stability; this variety dissolves in water worse. Ammonium polyphosphate is used not only as a flame retardant. It is involved in other areas of industry, and various modifiers are added to crystalline phase II to obtain specific properties.
