Intumescent Fire Retardant For Top Coatings With Extremely Weather Resistance
TF-MF201 is a product based on ammonium polyphosphate phase II, it's modified by melamine-formaldehyde resin. Therefore the fine white powder of TF-MF201 shows very low solubility in water, even at elevated temperatures, compared to normal ammonium polyphosphate. TF-MF201 is completely insoluble in organic solvents.

Intumescent coatings
On account of its low water solubility, TF-MF201 is particularly suitable as an ”acid donor” for intumescent coatings. TF-MF201 can be used advantageously in intumescent coatings where the ammonium polyphosphate is required to have extremely low water solubility and where lower heat stability at temperatures above 300 °C contributes to more rapid foaming of the coating.
How does fire retardant flame retardant work?
Ammonium polyphosphate has a key useful property - flame retention due to thermal expansion. Paint that protects against fire swells when exposed to high temperatures, and polyphosphate acid appears on the substrate (metal, wood). It is a product of dehydration and heating. If we are talking about a surface of organic matter, then a carbon film is formed. It does not allow the flame to spread. It works like this - a large volume of non-combustible gases is generated, a thick foam appears, which acts as a layer of thermal insulation, and as a result, the material is protected from air and ceases to heat up.
When fire retardant paint burns, it emits soft smoke. It contains very few toxic gases, so the coating is classified as non-hazardous. For paint, which includes such a flame retardant, the price is determined by its other components and the resulting properties. The material meets all the requirements of passive fire protection, which are presented to modern compositions.
